Residential Electrical Panel Upgrades in South & Central Florida
A Panel Plan Based on the Home
Your electrical panel should fit the condition of the home and the power the property needs today. LED Action evaluates residential panel replacement and upgrade projects across South and Central Florida. We review the existing equipment, current concerns and planned loads before defining a project-specific scope.

Panel Replacement, Panel Upgrade or Service Upgrade?
These terms are related, but they are not always interchangeable. A panel replacement changes the distribution equipment and breakers. A panel upgrade may add space or support a different configuration. A service upgrade can change the amount of electrical service available to the property and may affect equipment beyond the interior panel.
The right recommendation depends on what is installed, its condition and the loads the home must support. Not every older panel needs the same solution, and one proposed circuit does not automatically require a complete service upgrade.
When to Request a Panel Assessment
An assessment may be useful when planning a significant electrical addition or when the system shows a recurring concern. Reasons to call include:
- Breakers that continue to trip after connected loads have been reduced
- No practical space for a planned circuit
- Buzzing, crackling, heat, discoloration or a burning odor
- Visible corrosion, moisture damage or uncertain service history
- Plans for an EV charger, mini-split connection or other significant load
These signs do not diagnose the cause. Troubleshooting may identify a circuit, appliance, connection or service issue instead of a need for full replacement. Do not remove the panel cover or touch damaged service equipment. Smoke, fire, arcing or an immediate hazard requires emergency action, not a website estimate.
What LED Action Reviews
An assessment can consider the service rating, panel make and model, breaker condition and space, existing circuits, major household loads and planned additions. Service equipment, meter-related components, grounding and bonding, outdoor exposure and routes for new circuits may also affect the scope.
The estimate should identify included equipment, project assumptions, expected power interruption and any approval or utility steps that may apply. Local documentation and inspection requirements vary, so they should be checked for the property rather than described with a blanket promise.
Planning for EV Charging, HVAC and Lighting
New equipment should be considered within the home's overall electrical demand. If you are planning a Tesla or Level 2 charger, start with our EV charger installation page. For lighting improvements, explore recessed lighting installation and all residential electrical services.
For a deeper comparison of charging need, available capacity, equipment, route, local approvals and owner handoff, use the Florida Tesla and Level 2 EV charger planning guide.
Sharing the full project plan helps avoid evaluating each addition in isolation and gives the estimate a clearer set of assumptions.
Our Residential Panel Project Process
Describe the concern: Send the address, property type, reason for the request and planned additions.
Share safe photos: Photograph the closed panel, visible labels and surrounding area without removing covers.
Review the property: LED Action evaluates relevant conditions and questions that must be resolved.
Approve the scope: The estimate should describe the proposed work, assumptions, interruption and permit, inspection or utility responsibilities.
Complete and document: Retain the project information provided for household records.

Electrical Panel Upgrade FAQs
Does an older electrical panel automatically need replacement?
No. Age is one factor, not a diagnosis. Equipment condition, service history, recurring symptoms, available space and planned loads all matter.
Do I need a 200-amp panel?
There is no universal answer. The appropriate configuration depends on the home, existing service, electrical demand and future plans.
Can I add an EV charger without upgrading the panel?
Sometimes. Charger requirements, existing loads, service capacity and available space must be reviewed before deciding.
Will the power be turned off during a panel project?
Panel replacement normally requires an interruption, but its timing and duration depend on scope, utility involvement, inspections and site conditions. Discuss the expected window before scheduling.
Can an upgrade be guaranteed to satisfy my insurer?
No electrical contractor controls an insurer's decision. Ask the insurer for written requirements before the project is scoped.
